Ohio Boat Operators Guide

Prior to your rental, it is recommended that you obtain your Ohio Boater's License. You can do so by taking the free online course and test. It only takes a few hours and you will have your license for life! Just click the button below and you will be able to sign up for the free course and exam. Choose Ohio in the drop-down box.

Ohio Boater's Temporary License Study Guide

Study this guide prior to your rental. You will be given a 10 question quiz to obtain your temporary boater's license that will be good for the duration of your rental.

Know Your Equipment

Personal Flotation Device (PFD)

  • When renting a jet ski, a lifejacket must be always worn.
  • When renting a boat, a life jacket will be stored onboard for each passenger over the age of 10.
  • We strongly recommend that each passenger on a boat always wear a life jacket.
  • Anyone under the age of 10 must always wear a life jacket. 
  • A life jacket must always be worn when entering the water at any depth.
  • A person operating a personal watercraft that is equipped by the manufacturer with a lanyard-type engine cutoff shall attach the lanyard to the person’s wrist or life jacket.

Anchor

  • Your boat will have an anchor onboard. The anchor must always be attached to the bow (front) of the boat. 
  • The length of the anchor line must be 5:1 or more for calm conditions or temporary anchoring.
  • If the anchor is too short, it may not hold.

Fire Extinguisher

  • Your rental craft will come equipped with a fire extinguisher.
  • Please locate the fire extinguisher prior to departure.
  • No smoking of any kind is permitted on any of our rental crafts. If you violate this rule, you will lose your deposit and be banned from future rentals.

Distress Flags

  • Your rental will come equipped with the proper distress flags. 
  • Please locate the distress flag prior to departure.
  • No person shall display any distress signal unless a vessel or a person is in distress and need of help.

Sound Signals

  • All rentals will come equipped with the proper sound signals.
  • All jet skis will have manual blow horns.
  • All boats will come equipped with an onboard horn and a backup manual blow horn.

First Aid Kit

  • Each jet ski and boat will have a first aid kit, in case of an emergency.
